The Contrasts of Delhi!

The Journey Takes You!

John Steinbeck said, “A journey is like marriage and a certain way to be wrong is to think you control it”. I don’t know about marriage but I can vouch for the author’s opinion on how it is wrong to think we control the journey!

Someone from the hostel I was staying in was leaving for the nearby railway station. Another friend I met in the same hostel gave the idea to hop into the cab and join the ride.

We did that and went to the railway station that morning!

What’s in a hostel?

Some places make it so much easier to meet, talk and go out with people you have just met. Moustache Delhi, the hostel I stayed in, turned out to be one such place.

A little while after we said our goodbyes to the hostel mate who gave us the ride, we decided to go find him again at the platform he said his train would arrive. As you can expect, he looked more than happy when he saw us again.

Maybe he thought, “why are these two following me?”.

So that’s how I captured these morning scenes in a railway station in Delhi!

A city like Delhi would have a lot of shades to it. The same street that’s busy with walks, conversations, food and life in the evenings, would look so different in the morning, with its empty streets which are not so harshly lit by the sun yet.

The busy and majestic Connaught Place

To experience such contrasts tops the list of the things to do when exploring a new place. So when another friend suggested going to Connaught Place in the evening, I said yes! This can’t be any less of an example of a contrast to the morning scenes from a while ago.

The wider roads, the buildings and their architecture, the traffic, the people and the pathways and most important of all, the cooler warmth the night brings with it on a summer evening in Delhi, offer a clear contrast to the daytime scenes and weather.

CP is one of those places which looks busy but can transform you into a leisure and lighter mood. It’s a place that invites and encourages you to keep walking, with something interesting sprinkled every now and then.

It also has a maze of food stalls, affordable and tasty that treats your hunger and nudges you forward for another walking tour. During the short stay in Delhi, this outing added to the experience of this city with different scenes.

I made a note to revisit this place.. to absorb the same pathways shining bright in the light of the day. But sadly I couldn’t..

Hopefully, I will check it off the list the next time I’m in Delhi which I think is going to happen sometime soon!
